Ptuj is one of Slovenia’s oldest towns, situated in the northeast along the Drava River.
Its history stretches back to Roman times, evident in the remnants of ancient walls and the layout of the old town.
The city center features narrow streets lined with Baroque buildings, while Ptuj Castle offers views of the river valley and houses collections of historical artifacts. Each February, the Kurentovanje festival fills the streets with traditional costumes, a centuries-old rite to chase away winter.
